Contest Reminders

Booklover's BenchThe Booklover’s Bench contest runs through January 18th. You can win a $25 gift card, eBooks, or a chance to win a character in my upcoming book. Go to Booklover’s Bench and click the Contest Info tab in the nav bar for all the details.

Nook Simple TouchAnd, if you’re a newsletter subscriber (and why not, I ask?), you should have received your newsletter with a special link to an exclusive contest where I’m giving away a Nook Simple Touch. Runners up will win books from best-selling authors or another chance to name a character in my next novel. There are several ways to enter, so check your inbox (or spam folder) for the newsletter to get the link to the contest. You have until January 20th to enter (and there’s a review option for extra entries. You can go back and add that option any time before the 20th even if you’ve already entered using the other options.)

Why Resolutions Fail

What I’m reading: A Highlander for Christmas, by Christina Skye

Good news for my newsletter subscribers. In addition to giving away a Nook, I’ve got some very special authors joining me with giveaways. You can win books by best-selling authors Allison Brennan, Kathleen O’Brien, Shelly Thacker, and Roxanne St. Claire, as well as fellow Booklover’s Bench authors Terry Ambrose and Nancy J. Cohen. How’s that for a star-filled lineup? (Oh, and I might toss in something myself!) But you can’t enter if you aren’t a subscriber, so click the link in the nav bar and remember to click through when you get the confirmation email.

And, if you missed it, Kobo, is having a 50% off sale. Dangerous Connections and Deadly Secrets are included in this deal. You need to enter the code 50COUPON at checkout. Good through January 5th. (And you don’t need a Kobo reader to get the books. You can download the free app and read it on a phone, computer, tablet.)

No New Year's ResolutionsWith a new year come new beginnings. Fresh starts. We all enter it filled with hope and promises to make it better than the last one.

And, usually, by the end of January, all those good intentions have gone by the wayside. I gave up making resolutions long ago (although I occasionally make them for the Hubster—less chance of me breaking them that way). What I’ve learned, is that if you want to see success, you have to narrow your focus.

These resolutions don’t work: I resolve to get published. I resolve to be a best-selling author. I resolve to make $100,000 selling my e-books. I’m going to lose weight. Why don’t they work? They’re dreams.

Looking Ahead

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays from my house to yours

I imagine most of you are bogged down with holiday preparations, travel, taking in guests, being a guest, etc. It’s also a time when we start to look forward to the next year. I’ve been thinking about next year, and thought I’d share a few things that I’m planning.

First, this blog has some great guests lined up for the first quarter of 2014. There’s always a list of recent and upcoming guests in the sidebar. I’m planning to continue recipe sharing (and always looking for more) and Friday Field Trips should resume in January (always looking for photos, too!).

Nook Simple TouchMy next quarterly newsletter will go out the first week in January. If you’re not already a subscriber, I suggest you click the newsletter tab in the sidebar and fill out the form. (Note – it’s a 2 step process, so once you hit submit, watch your email for the confirmation and click through on that link.) What will my subscribers have in store? In addition to sneak peeks and other exclusive content, I’ll be continuing my contests and giveaways, full of things from me and from authors I know and enjoy. Also, there will be some great prizes, including a Nook Simple Touch. Take a moment and sign up now.

I’ve also got another box of books to give away when I hit 2000 “likes” on my Facebook Page. If you haven’t clicked the ‘like’ button yet, I hope you’ll do that, too.

I’m still thinking about a “Street Team” and have been collecting lots of gifts for those who join. Watch this blog for more information as things come together.

Thanks for stopping by. I’ll let you get back to your holiday preparations and celebrations! But please find time to stop by tomorrow when Elaine Cantrell is in the Interview Room.

Last Day!

NOOK Simple Touch
Today’s the last day to enter the contest for a NOOK Simple Touch, or a gift certificate to Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

This post contains the tenth question in the bonus entry category. (Remember the magic words: “Nook Contest” must appear in any blog comments for them to be counted as entries.)

If you’re answering questions, be aware that only correct answers will be entered into the drawing. Some of them are harder than others, but all answers can be found on my website if you take the time to look.

Also, the winner MUST be subscribed to my newsletter, so don’t leave out that step. I’ll be checking the list.

I’ll draw names tomorrow, and then verify that the winner has met the requirements. Be sure to read all the contest rule posts to make sure you’ve maximized your chances to win.

The final question, #10, is: What is the pattern on Scott’s robe?
Don’t forget to use the Contact Form to answer the question, and put “Nook Contest” in the subject line.

Good luck everyone!

Nook Contest Recap

NOOK Simple TouchToday’s extra post serves a dual purpose.

First, I was informed that the email subscription system wasn’t working properly, so those of you who have signed up to get emails when new posts went up weren’t being notified. Of course, I hope everyone checks my blog every day, but I know that’s not reality. So, after much time and hair-pulling, I THINK I might have the settings right. (Another grumble of mine—it was working before, but then they “fixed” it, so it stopped working.)

If you’re a newsletter subscriber and DID get a message about this post, I’d love a quick comment or “contact” note. If you’re NOT yet a subscriber, and you do sign up (please use the new form is at the TOP, in the nav bar), I’d love to know if it works.

Next, the NOOK Contest will end June 10th. After that date, no more entries will be accepted. I’ll pick a winner at random and announce it on my blog no later than Friday, June 15th, which gives me time to verify the winners.

Remember, to win, there are THREE requirements.

1. Be following my blog in some fashion: RSS feed, Networked Blogs, or email (hence my dismay that the system wasn’t working—but the list of subscribers does work on my end, so I will know that you signed up, whether or not you’re getting notifications.)

2. Sign up for my newsletter. (Form is in the nav bar) Remember, there’s a confirmation step, so watch your inbox.

3. Enter! Yes, you have to tell me you’re entering the contest. It’s not automatic. Use the Contact Form (in the nav bar). Put “NOOK Contest” in the header and then tell me how you’ve complied with Step 1.

Bonus entries are explained in the Rules post … click the link at the top of the blog’s home page, or the one in the sidebar. And for the questions, use one email per answer. If you lump them all into a single email, I’m afraid I might lose track of the extras. To date, there have been 7 questions. There will be 10 before the end of the contest.

Enjoy your weekend!
